Blu-ray players self-destruct if they detect copied media

Those $1000 Blu-ray players that promise high-definition picture and sound may also be packing a new hidden feature: they self-destruct if they think you’re playing copied media. After attempting to play a disc that appears to contain a cracked encryption code, the player will refuse to play any disc using the same encryption scheme, including movies that aren’t pirated or copied.

Seat belt saves car passenger from bullet

A car passenger in Tampa, Florida, was saved from a bullet when her seat belt deflected a 38 caliber bullet Sunday. The slug shattered the windshield of the car she was in and struck her in the shoulder but the woman’s thick bra strap and seat belt combined to stop the bullet.

Woman kidnapped as toddler 30 years ago found

A woman who, as a toddler, was kidnapped by her father in 1976 has been found living in Arizona. The father had told is daughter that her mother had been killed in an auto accident. The mother is hopeful that her newly found daughter will make contact with her now that she knows the truth.

Nintendo’s new game console draws crowds at electronics show

Nintendo’s next generation game console, named Wii (pronounced “weeeee!”), has a four hour wait to try the console at this week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show. In contrast, Sony’s Playstation 3 is drawing only a 30 minute wait to get a hands-on look at the system. Nintendo Wii is expected to sell for less money and has a more innovative controller than the Sony product.

Suspect admits licking women’s feet and toes on NY subway

A NY man with a foot fetish submitted a handwitten confession to police admitting he tried to kiss, fondle and lick the legs and toes of over 70 women on the New York subway. He described his technique as an icebreaker that would encourage the women to open up and talk to him.

New household cleaner packaged like sports drink

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is concerned because new household cleaners are being packaged to look and smell like fruity sports drinks. The Commission has reports of children confusing the cleaners for drinks and even of adults taking swigs before spitting it out. Colgate Palmolive, the company that makes one of the cleaners, says they’ll get around to putting a child-proof cap on the cleaner sometime later this year.

Mom arrested for making Ex-Lax cookies

A mother who helped her daughter make Ex-Lax laxative laced cookies to give to a teacher that gave her a low grade was arrested Friday afternoon. The students left the cookies on the intended victim’s desk but the teacher shared them with students instead of eating them. At least four seventh and eighth grade students became ill.
