North Korean leader Kim Jong-il shot 11 hole-in-ones on his first attempt at golf, according to the AP. Kim turned 64 Thursday and was offered birthday congratulations over the telephone from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Police SWAT team robbed

Weapons, a police badge and laptop computers were stolen Monday morning from a rental car that belonged to an out-of-town SWAT team visiting San Antonio, Texas, for training. An officer had just placed the items in the car and returned to his hotel room to retrieve some additional items when the theft occurred.

Two men confess to killing Curious George coauthor

Two men are being held in the Palm Beach County jail in connection with the murder of Curious George coauthor Alan Shalleck. The men are charged with first-degree murder, armed home invasion, aggravated battery and dealing in stolen property. The 76-year-old suffered stab wounds and was stuffed beneath a heap of trash.

Baggage screeners find human head inside luggage

A Haitian woman was arrested in Fort Lauderdale after baggage screeners discovered a human head in her luggage. The woman was charged with smuggling a human head into the U.S. without proper documentation that’s required of people bringing human heads into the U.S. The woman told authorities she got the head to user in her voodoo beliefs.

Sports legend traded for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit

The Walt Disney Company is trading ABC Sportcaster Al Michaels to NBC Universal in exchange for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald was the first character created by Walt Disney in 1927 but Universal Pictures held the rights to the character. Saddened by the loss of the rights to the Oswald character, Disney created a new character: Mickey Mouse.

Bloody body of Curious George co-author found under garbage bags

The bloody body Alan Shalleck, a former producer and co-writer of the popular Curious George books and cartoons was found under garbage bags in the driveway of his Boynton Beach home. Shalleck was writer and director of 104 five-minute episodes of Curious George for the Disney Channel. The episodes were later adapted into 28 books. Shalleck also co-authored Curious George books with Margaret Ray, one of the original authors of the series. Police are treating the case as a possible homicide.

Low-fat diet doesn’t help fight cancer or heart disease

A major study has concluded that a lower consumption of dietary fat does not reduce the incidence of breast cancer, heart disease, or stroke, or colorectal cancer. The $415 million federal study was the largest ever clinical trial of a low-fat diet’s effects. Results are published in the February 8 edition of the reported Journal of the American Medical Association.
