Man dies in fall down shopping complex elevator shaft

A 25-year-old man died when he fell down an elevator shaft while climbing out of an elevator stuck between floors at Lincoln Square, a shopping complex in Bellevue, Washington. Investigators say five people were in the elevator and decided to pry the doors open and jump down to the next floor. The fifth person to try slipped and fell backwards into the open shaft. It’s unknown why the group didn’t remain in the car and wait for help. source

Man shot on 4 separate occaisions in same location

A Poughkeepsie man was shot for the fourth time in the same apartment complex in six years Saturday. The assailant in the shooting was apprehended by police. The apartment complex, known as Tubman Terrace, is a public housing complex partly owned by the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. source

UK Zoo celebrates Poo Week

Britain’s Paignton Zoo is celebrating Poo Week - an entire week dedicated to “the amazing qualities of dung.” Visitors will be shown how to use dung for fertilizer and how sheets of paper can be made from rhino dung. The paper is sold and the proceeds used for rhino conservation.

62-year-old gives birth to boy

A 62-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy 6-pound, 9-ounce baby boy, Friday becoming one of the oldest women ever to successfully give birth. It was the 12th child for the lucky mother who is also a grandmother of 20 and a great-grandmother of three. Because the woman, who is diabetic, experienced swelling and higher blood pressure earlier this week, doctors performed the Caesarean section a week early.

Voodoo priests at risk for bird flu

Voodoo priests who tear the throats out of live chickens in ritual sacrifices may be putting themselves at risk of contracting bird flu. Officials in the tiny West African country of Benin, which is the home of the ancient religion, say spreading the word about bird flu may help to save the lives of voodoo devotees. Benin borders Nigeria where an outbreak of the deadly H5N1 virus was found in poultry last week.

Oklahoma man bites off girlfriend’s nose

An Oklahoma man allegedly bit off and swallowed his girlfriend’s nose as her family was sitting down to dinner. Doctors decided not to try to retrieve the nose from the man’s stomach because stomach acid would have rendered it unsuitable to be reattached.

XM Radio satellite director quits

XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (stock symbol XMSR) director Pierce Roberts has quit the company’s board because of “a significant chance of a crisis on the horizon”. Roberts said he was “troubled” about the current direction of XM Radio.
