Scientists develop life-saving childbirth pants

Scientists have developed a lightweight pair of pants that could help save the lives of thousands of women in who die each year during childbirth. The pants restore blood flow to vital organs in women in shock and suffering from obstetrical haemorrhaging, or bleeding, during the birth. In a pilot study the pants reduced death and severe illness by 69 percent.

Three drunk drivers arrested in crash

All three drivers involved in a three-vehicle accident in Wisconsin were arrested for drunk driving Sunday. Four people were injured in the crash which shut down portions of Highway 26 for about five hours. source

Cell phone for dogs set for release next year

Impact Lab reports that a mobile phone that fits on a dog’s collar will be marketed next year so owners can communicate with their lonely dogs. The phone, called Petscell, will attach to the dog’s collar. It promises to not only let dogs hear their owners’ voices but to let the owner hear the dog barking or growling a response.

Viagra could be used to treat Crohn’s disease

Scientists from the University College of London have found that the anti-impotence drug Viagra could help treat Crohn’s disease. They believe the bowel disorder may be triggered by a weak immune system and Viagra works to correct the low blood flow. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disorder which causes ulcerations and can make digesting food painful. source

DirecTV and Dish Network may cook up WiMax plan

There is speculation that DirecTV and Dish Network’s parent EchoStar may work together to build a WiMax network that would enable them to offer high-speed telephone, network, and entertainment services. The performance of the network would exceed what cable companies and telcos are currently offering and would allow downloading content wirelessly onto different devices simultaneously. Together DirecTV and Dish Network currently have around 27 million subscribers.

Thief steals urine samples from probation office

Someone broke into a Wisconsin state probation and parole office and stole all the urine samples of those under court orders not to use alcohol or illegal drugs. Police and probation and parole personnel would not comment on how many samples were stolen.

Young South Koreans would support North in war with US

47.7% of South Korean youths would back North Korea if the United States attacks North Korean nuclear plants without approval. Most see it as a rejection of solving the crisis with the North by force. source
