Police officer loses gun at elementary school

A South Carolina police officer drove off from an elementary school after placing his gunbelt on top of his patrol car Tuesday. Someone later found the gun and turned it in and no one was hurt. The officer is being made to take remedial training.

Suicide mistaken for halloween decoration

The body of a woman who hung herself was ignored for hours by passersby who mistook her for a halloween decoration. The 42-year-old Delaware woman used rope to hang herself across the street from some homes on a moderately busy road late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Her body was easily visible by passing motorists.

Biker injured in collision with turkey

A motorcyclist in California was injured whenn he collided with an airborne wild turkey. The motorcyclist was flown to an area hospital and was in serious condition. The turkey that hit the man died.

Six stabbed at toddler’s birthday party

A one-year-old child’s birthday party in East Hartford, Connecticut, erupted into a melee that left six people stabbed. The fight broke out after midnight among about 50 adults, most of whom were party guest. Some of the participants wielded knives including one that was found under a birthday cake.

Dog attacks anti-dangerous dog bill author

The author of a New Mexico state law that allows felony charges against owners of dangerous dogs was hospitalized over the weekend after one of his own dogs attacked him. Bob Schwartz, who is Governor Bill Richardson’s crime adviser, was hospitalized Sunday night with bites on both his arms.

Military testing transparent aluminum armor

Engineers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are testing an armor made of transparent aluminum that is stronger and lighter than traditional materials but could stop armor-piercing weapons from penetrating vehicle windows. The biggest obstacle is cost which at $10-15 per square inch is much greater than the $3 per square inch of traditional armor.

Chinese astronauts only get one change of underwear

The two Chinese astronauts, Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng will enjoy only one change of underwear during their 119-hour space flight. Since no shower is feasible in space, the two are provided with a sort of special tissue to clean their bodies and special cream to moisturize their skin.
