Recently installed highway signs in Easthampton, Massachusetts, display the outline of the state of Alabama. The were up about a week before a state Highway Department worker alerted the town of the error.

Woman sues Denny’s over burned buttocks

A Kansas is suing the Denny’s restaurant chain because her buttocks were burned by a cleaning fluid left on a toilet seat in one of their diners. The lawsuit says the woman had to be taken to a hospital after she sat down on the toilet in February 2002.

Zookeepers want chimp to quit smoking

Zookeepers in South Africa are warning visitors not to give cigarettes to Charley, a chainsmoking chimpanzee. Charley began smoking by picking up discarded cigarettes and mimicking humans.

OJ Simpson convicted of pirating DirecTV

A federal judge has ordered former football star O.J. Simpson to pay $25,000 in damages for pirating satellite television signals from DirecTV. Simpson still owes most of a $33.5 million settlement to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

Cats can’t taste sweets

A new study publish in the journal PLoS Genetics finds that cats are unable to taste sugar or other sweets. The research was funded by Mars, Incorporated, a maker of pet foods and candy.

Woman dies while electrocuting worms

An Iowa woman who was attempting to gather worms by running electrical current through the ground died after accidentally electrocuting herself. The woman was using a homemade device to shock the ground with one end of the device plugged into household current. The ground was soaked at the time of the accident.

West Virginia beats out Kentucky as most toothless state

A new survey puts West Virginia in first place among states with toothless residents, beating out Kentucky which was number one in 2003. The central Appalachian states lead the nation in toothlessness.
