German scientists discover cabbage-hating gene
The German Institute for Food Research in Potsdam near Berlin announced it has located a gene that makes some people hate cabbage and spinach, and discovered that the same gene often protects people from obesity. People with the gene are sensitive to the taste of phenylthiocarbamid (PTC) and propylthiouracil (PROP). People who cannot taste PTC and PROP tended to eat fattier foods and become overweight.
