Hot dog vendors arrested for prostitution

Two Long Island women who sold hot dogs and sodas from a truck were charged with prostitution for also offering sexual acts in exchange for money. One of the vendors offered to expose her breasts to an undercover officer who was buying a hot dog and the other offered him oral sex in exchange for money.

A new study by the University of Minnesota found that healthy young men and women gained an extra 10 pounds, on average, over 15 years if they ate fast food more than twice a week. They also doubled their rate of a prediabetes condition known as insulin resistance.

Dog drives truck into store

A dog in Arkansas who was left behind in his owner’s truck while he went in an auto parts store shifted the vehicle into gear and crashed into the store. No one was hurt and no humans or animals were cited.

Doctor amputates wrong foot

A doctor at a hospital in southern Mexico mistakenly amputated the right leg of an elderly patient who had an infection in his left foot. The patient emerged from surgery without a right leg - and still suffering from the original infection. A spokesman said the surgeon who made the error has been removed from the hospital pending the outcome of an investigation.

Florida bans export of ugly tomatoes

The Florida Tomato Committee has determined that a popular and tasty tomato called UglyRipes can no longer be sold out of state because they are too ugly. Unlike most supermarket tomatoes, UglyRipes sell at premium prices because they taste so good. Rules governing what can be sold outside Florida only distinguish between the appearance of tomatoes, not flavor.

Officials recall fart bomb toys

Hong Kong officials are pulling fart bomb toys from the shelves because the gag gift produces a dangerous chemical reaction. The smelly sulfur-acid mixture produced by the toy can cause nausea, headaches and eye irritation. Customs officers have seized 263 fart bombs and are urging parents to hand in their unused toys to a consumer protection bureau.

River tests positive for hepatitis A

The US Geological Survey has detected hepatitis A virus in the Cuyahoga River between Akron and Cleveland. Other bacteria, viruses and parasites that can trigger diseases were also found. Fortunately, few people use the river between Akron and Cleveland for recreational activities.
