A dog suspected of being infected with rabies in southwestern Burkina Faso was killed and eaten by local residents. Several people who had been bitten by the dog, mostly women and children, were vaccinated against rabies as a precaution.

A 38-year-old man has received up to three years in prison for third-degree rape, but his sentence will be postponed so he can marry his teenage victim. The man believed the girl, who was 16 when he moved in with her and her mother in 2002, was older. Both the defendant’s lawyer and a lawyer representing his bride-to-be argued that the case shouldn’t be prosecuted.

Toyota’s latest concept car is made from potatoes. Rear bumpers, trims and mats in the ES3 prototype hatchback are built from a plastic derived from a natural acid in sweet potatoes. The organically formed substance is biodegradable as well as being as tough as conventional materials.

US Representative Roger Wicker from Tupelo, Mississippi, was treated at a Tupelo hospital this week for burns suffered while frying okra. A spokesman for the congressman said he suffered second-degree burns Sunday night on his left hand and left arm.
