Company plans to rewire, refurbish United States

Norwegian Cruise Lines has announced it will buy the historic cruise ship, the United States, refurbish it and return it to service after it is sandblasted, rewired, and refubished. On its maiden voyage in 1952, the liner set a new trans-Atlantic speed record that stood until 1990.

CNN blamed human error Thursday for posting obituaries on its web site for Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope and other prominent figures. Other notable figures CNN declared dead include Fidel Castro, Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandela, and Gerald Ford.

SARS spreads through sewage pipes into homes

A SARS patient with diarrhea infected other people in a Hong Kong apartment complex as the disease through a sewage pipes linked to poorly sealed water drains into other people’s homes, according to a report.

43 high school students caught boozing and smoking dope on website

School officials in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, have identified 43 high school students seen on an Internet site drinking from booze and apparently smoking marijuana. Fourteen have been suspended from extracurricular activities and sports. The others are having their parents contacted about the photos posted on the site.

Girl struck and killed by model plane

A 13-year-old girl, from Dartford, England, was struck in the head and killed by a model airplane while walking with her mother Tuesday. The remote control plane appeared to have flown out of control, striking the teenager and causing severe injuries.

Woman hospitalized after being struck by radio-controlled car

An 86-year-old woman checking her mailbox was struck by a shoebox-sized remote-controlled car that left her hospitalized with deep leg lacerations, police in Michigan City, Indiana, said. The cuts to her legs were so severe paramedics had to apply bandages and pressure to control the bleeding.

Pork chop triggers explosion

An artist in Lake Worth, Florida, was cooking pork chops near a keg of gunpowder when a grease fire erupted and accidentally set off a huge explosion Monday night. The blast destroyed a workshop behind the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art.
