A 72-year-old California artist has recruited her friends and neighbors to spell out the words “No War” and “Peace” with their naked bodies in an effort to keep the United States from liberating the people of Iraq. “We are doing this from the heart and from a feeling of desperation,” Sheehan said.

Thailand crowns ‘Miss Drunk’

Arunothai Sriaran was named “Miss Drunk” at a contest Thursday to promote Thailand’s wines. The contestants downed five shots of wine and walked a zigzag path between two rows of wine bottles without knocking them down while wearing traditional Thai dresses of heavy silk finery including golden headgear. Public drunkenness is frowned upon in Thailand, a conservative Buddhist society, and some Thai senators called it a disgrace to the dignity of Thai women. Arunothai received the US equivalent of $120.

Contestants injured during radio station’s dry ice sitting contest

A Birmingham, England, radio station will face court action over a dry ice sitting contest it ran which is alleged to have left three members of the public in hospital for more than eight weeks. Dry ice, which is frozen carbon dioxide, has a temperature of -108.4°F (-78°C). Four people were treated for severe frostbite, which resulted in a loss of skin, fat and muscle and caused permanent scarring.

Bungling discount hitman sentenced to prison

A hitman who accepted 100 pounds plus a used Ford Granada as payment, but shot the wrong person, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison. Paul Jones, 41, fired a shotgun into the intended victim’s neighbor who barely survived. The man who hired Jones was convicted earier of conspiracy to commit murder.

Up to ninety percent of office thermostats are fakes

Up to 90% of office thermostats are fakes installed to fool employees into thinking they have control of the temperature of their office space, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal. Sometimes the employer who’s leasing office space doesn’t even know the thermostat isn’t real.

Drunken birds smash into university’s windows

Thousands of drunk birds are smashing into windows at Karlstad University near Stockholm after gorging themselves on fermented berries. 50 of the waxwings are reported dead so far. No windows have been broken in the crashes.
