Saudi doctors perform first womb transplant
Saudi surgeons transplanted the womb from a 46-year-old woman into a 26-year-old woman in the first successful womb transplant. The recipient carried the new womb for 99 days before it had to be removed.
British surgeons plan to perform similar surgery soon.
Stolen Rolex returned covered with diamonds
A man who had his $28,000 Rolex watch stolen had it returned by London police after the thieves had covered it with diamonds. The modification brought the estimated worth of the luxury timepiece to around $140,000.
Quebec population minister and pals kill 18,000 birds
Remy Trudel, Quebec, Canada’s population minister, and seven of his buddies visited Argentina recently where they killed 18,000 doves and pigeons during a hunting trip. The birds are very numerous and are considered pests by area farmers.
“They’re really easy to kill,” he admits.
Attack of the anthrax-killer tomatoes
Dr. Henry Daniell, a University Of Central Florida researcher, said that he’s discovered an anthrax vaccine using tomato and tobacco plants. Unlike the current vaccine which has to be injected, the anti-anthrax tomato is effective when eaten.
“You can grow 200 acres of tobacco and produce vaccines for the whole country,” Daniells said.
Hearse stolen from funeral
In Yakima, Washington, the Reverend Garland Benintendi’s sons carried his casket out of a church a few weeks ago only to discover that the hearse had been stolen.
David Benintendi says his 80-year-old father, a former pastor and missionary, “would have thought it was hilarious.”
Sword wielding teen shot dead by deputy
19-year-old Matthew Hibbitts of Gainesville, Florida, was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy after he advanced on the deputy wielding a samurai sword, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.
