Thailand crowns ‘Miss Drunk’
Arunothai Sriaran was named “Miss Drunk” at a contest Thursday to promote Thailand’s wines. The contestants downed five shots of wine and walked a zigzag path between two rows of wine bottles without knocking them down while wearing traditional Thai dresses of heavy silk finery including golden headgear. Public drunkenness is frowned upon in Thailand, a conservative Buddhist society, and some Thai senators called it a disgrace to the dignity of Thai women. Arunothai received the US equivalent of $120.
