Senate’s biggest loser tries to weasel back to GOP
Senator James Jeffords of Vermont put out feelers about rejoining the Republican party wihtin hours of the November elections. He left the party in 2000 in order to throw control of the chamber to the Democrats, a deal which let him keep his chairmanship of the Environment and Public Works Committee. Now as an independent he stands to lose that position which he would have kept if he had stayed in the GOP. Republican leaders have indicated he’s not welcome back.
