A University of Wisconsin medical team has invented an artificial leech which can suck blood forever. The device pokes the skin and releases an anticoagulant and alcohol. Unlike real leeches, which are still used to prevent blood from pooling after certain procedures, the artificial device will be sterile. Those treated with live leeches face a 20% risk of an infection which normally responds to antibiotics.
