Student newspaper caught in plagiarism scandal
Washington State University’s student newspaper, The Daily Evergreen, found itself in a plagiarism scandal after printing a story with sections copied verbatim from a joke on a website. The story about Filipino-Americans gave the translation for a Spanish galleon called the Nuestra Señora de Buena Esperanza as “Big Ass Spanish Boat.” The name actually means “Our Lady of Good Hope.”
