Slice of lemon may not be an effective birth control method
Thai Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan has warned couples to rely on condoms instead of lemon juice to prevent pregnancies.
Her warning contradicts a suggestion by Population Development Association chief Mechai Viravaidya advising rural people they could use lemon or lime juice as an effective contraceptive.
Viravaidya backed a theory that inserting a slice of lemon, or cotton soaked with lemon juice, into the vagina before sex would prevent pregnancy.
