Real-life jackalope found alive then shot dead
When Mark Blankenau stepped out of his back door about a month ago at his home in Omaha, he couldn’t believe what saw - a horned rabbit in his back yard. Although horned rabbits are uncommon, they are found throughout the Great Plains. The growths are the result of a virus carried by ticks.
A cancer researcher brought him a live trap to capture the rabbit for research. That didn’t work so Blankenau nailed him (the rabbit) with a pellet gun. Researchers are now examining the virus-created horns.
