State trooper has been hit by cars five times
Florida Highway Patrol trooper Shane Bryant has been struck five times, including twice this year, while working on the sides of highways. From January 1996 through December 2000, Florida motorists crashed into working law enforcement vehicles parked along the roadside 1,793 times.
Help is on the way, though. On May 1st, Governor Jeb Bush signed a law that cracks down on people who endanger law enforcement officers working on the sides of roads. Motorists must move over a lane if possible, and on two-lane roads have to reduce their speed by twenty miles per hour.
