Landlord forces man to drink his urine
In Bettiah, India, upper caste landlords from Chanaiyan-bandh village handed over Dasai Manjhi, a Dalit, with a firearm to the local police. Dalits belong to a social caste that are generally considered “untouchable” and suffer from abuses by members of other castes.
Manjhi was forwarded to jail on the allegation that he was cutting down trees belonging to the landlord, Parmanand Shahi.
Manjhi, meanwhile, filed a complaint in the court of the chief judicial magistrate, alleging that he had been falsely implicated because he refused to work on the landlord’s fields on paltry wages. He has alleged that the Shahis dragged him out of their house, tied him to a pole and shaved his head. He also alleges that one of the landlords forced Manjhi to drink the landlord’s urine.
