It’s a dog eat dog world
The bodies of dead shelter animals in Madison County, Illinois are now being stored in freezers while officials figure out what to do with them. The remains used to go to a rendering plant where they were boiled into raw protein that could have ended up in pet food. Following television station KMOV’s stories the plant stopped accepting shelter animals.
The Shelter at Madison County Animal Control would still be sending dead dogs and cats to the rendering plant, if the plant accepted them. A final decision is expected next month on what to do with the remains. For now, Madison County is considering using an incinerator in Alton for dead shelter animals.
